Five Easy Weight Loss Tips
«Back to Healthy Weight Loss

During the slow molasses days of summer and the shivering days of winter, we can find it’s not easy getting motivated to lose weight.

No matter, here are some easy to adopt strategies that may help you shed a few pounds or alternatively and even better, gain some muscle and lose some fat.

Switch to light. Choose lower fat or ‘light’ versions of mayonnaise, salad dressings, milk and cheese products. Check the labels to make sure you’re actually getting a reduced-fat product because ‘light’ can also mean reduced salt or reduced calories, which are not necessarily fat calories.

Add in a walk or bike ride a few days a week. For comfort, choose cooler times in the morning and evenings to head out for a jaunt. It’s important to keep in mind that you don’t have to be an athlete that does extreme amounts of exercise to be able to gain benefits from physical activity. Moderate exercise, both in intensity and time, is very effective for improving physical and mental health, as well as for getting your fuel burning system up and running optimally.

Drink water or other hydrating fluids. We often eat when we’re thirsty; and in the heat of summer dehydration is quite common. The average recommended daily water intake is around 2 litres. However, if you’re active and/or it’s hot so you’re sweating more, you’ll need to drink even more fluids than that.

Add more fibre to your diet. Simple additions of beans, fruits, vegetables, and whole grain breads and cereals to your diet will help you to feel full, and they will also help to keep your blood sugar level. This means you’ll suffer fewer cravings and hunger pangs.

Include some gentle stretches into your day. For inspiration look at how agile cats naturally include relaxing and loosening stretches into many of their daily movements. If you do the same, eventually bringing your muscles back into a state of relaxation and normal length, you’ll move easier, have less pain, and you’ll likely have better balance, too. This makes exercising a pleasure.

Try out a few consistently, making sure to add in the walking or biking, and before you know it you’ll be fitter, leaner, and much more invigorated.
