During the slow molasses days of summer and the shivering days of winter, we can find it’s not easy getting motivated to lose weight.
No matter, here are some easy to adopt strategies that may help you shed a few pounds or alternatively and even better, gain some muscle and lose some fat.
Switch to light. Choose lower fat or ‘light’ versions of mayonnaise, salad dressings, milk and cheese products. Check the labels to make sure you’re actually getting a reduced-fat product because ‘light’ can also mean reduced salt or reduced calories, which are not necessarily fat calories.
Drink water or other hydrating fluids. We often eat when we’re thirsty; and in the heat of summer dehydration is quite common. The average recommended daily water intake is around 2 litres. However, if you’re active and/or it’s hot so you’re sweating more, you’ll need to drink even more fluids than that.
Add more fibre to your diet. Simple additions of beans, fruits, vegetables, and whole grain breads and cereals to your diet will help you to feel full, and they will also help to keep your blood sugar level. This means you’ll suffer fewer cravings and hunger pangs.
Try out a few consistently, making sure to add in the walking or biking, and before you know it you’ll be fitter, leaner, and much more invigorated.
