Spiritualism and prayer is often as much a part of us as the food we eat and the air we breath. I would hazard a guess that there is not one culture out there whose people have not developed their own unique form of religion or spiritual nature or prayer.
Increasing multiculturalism, blending of families, and our information-easy age means that we now have greater access to the learnings, teachings, and prayers of numerous religions.
The website World Prayers is a great resource on prayers from around our globe. The site has hundreds of prayers listed under the categories of Prayers for Peace and Healing, Adorations, Celebration, Invocations, Meditations, as well as by Tradition and Group.
A small sampling:
Child’s Mealtime Blessing
Thank you for the world so sweet,
Thank you for the food we eat.
Thank you for the birds that sing,
Thank you God for everything.
Ancient - Tibetan Buddhist – Blessing and Meditation
May you be filled with loving kindness.
May you be well.
May you be peaceful and at ease.
May you be happy.
May I be filled with loving kindness.
May I be well.
May I be peaceful and at ease.
May I be happy.
Traditional Gaelic Blessing
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields
and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
American Indian - Navajo
With your feet I walk
I walk with your limbs
I carry forth your body
For me your mind thinks
Your voice speaks for me
Beauty is before me
And beauty is behind me
Above and below me hovers the beautiful
I am surrounded by it
I am immersed in it
In my youth I am aware of it
And in old age I shall walk quietly
The beautiful trail.
Hildegarde of Bingen - 12 century
Holy Spirit,
Giving life to all life,
Moving all creatures,
Root of all things,
Washing them clean,
Wiping out their mistakes,
Healing their wounds,
You are our true life,
Luminous, wonderful,
Awakening the heart from its ancient sleep.
While perusing the site, I found some old favourites, as well as some new favourites. I urge you to take a wander through and see what gems you can unearth.
